“My observations of nature and its multitude of shapes gave me the idea for LEAF,” says Helle Damkjær of the inspiration behind the new range of serving bowls from Georg Jensen LIVING. “I love flowers and petals. When I designed LEAF, I was thinking of the amazing symmetrical petals of the magnolia, deep and sweeping. A petal that seems undulating in its shape, as if it had just floated gently down from the top of a tree and is now resting firmly and serenely in new surroundings. With LEAF you bring summer indoors – whether in winter or summer – I’m looking forward to serving tasty delicacies in my LEAF petals!” says Helle Damkjær.

Helle Damkjær has been fascinated by Asia and its nature for many years. It is what gives her time for contemplation and tranquillity in her otherwise hectic schedule. It is also what provided her with the inspiration for her BLOOM bowls – designed for Georg Jensen in 2001 – and now her LEAF serving bowls.

“The minimalist traits of Asian cultures have a lot in common with Denmark. I’m attracted quite unconsciously by the shapes of nature, and my designs often end up making a statement that has similarities with the designs of both Asia and Denmark. I’m naturally attracted by shapes that have that particular feeling about them,” says Helle Damkjær.

LEAF makes a soft, natural statement that is both pure in style and harmonious. The bowls stand serenely and firmly on a table, but nevertheless express movement in their sweeping lines. Elegant and timeless, LEAF is unique in its organic design and will fit easily into any home.

The LEAF bowls come in three sizes and are ideal for serving biscuits, nuts, dates, olives, tapas etc or displaying as works of art in their own right. The bowls are made of stainless steel.

After many years of experience with some of the world’s most innovative design firms in Milan, New York and London, Helle Damkjær has been living together with her family in Paris since 1997.  She has a studio there and works as a graphic, product and interior designer. Her style is elegant and sharp, yet soft and harmonious. Her minimalist and organic approach, combined with her attention to detail, gives her designs a harmonious presence and all sorts of possible uses. The Georg Jensen BLOOM bowl is on display at MoMA, the Museum of Modern Art in New York.
